Loathe it. I've dropped people from my friends list because they posted nothing but fanfic. I won't join any communities that allow fanfic. I have friends who write and read it, and tend to have a lot more tolerance for people who either put it on a filter that I can opt out of, put it all behind a cut, or very clearly label it so that I can just pretend it's not there.

It's really disturbing though, when I can't tell if you're talking about your fandoms or talking about real life- and I've known a few people like that. You start reading an entry, and it looks like an account of something going on in real life until three paragraphs in, you suddenly realize that it's not real.

Won't get started on slash fic...I don't have the time. Maybe after I've made my way across the country and have some time to rant at leisure. If I start now, I'll probably still be going when the movers get here tomorrow.

In short, I hate it.

Disclamer: If you're on my friends list and you post fanfic, clearly, I don't have a problem with how you do it because you're still here, so none of this is commentary on you.

I have a friend who has a weird life and also posts 1st-person fiction (not fan fiction, but original fiction) to his journal without preamble (but with a tag of "story", if you notice tags, which I tend not to). I too find the "get three paragraphs in and realize it's fiction" annoying.

Right there with you. There are a couple people I'd like to keep up with more but don't because of either 1) excessive fanfic posting or 2) excessive twitter posting.

i agree, but thankfully the ONLY fanfic writer on my list keeps her fic to another journal entirely.

PS: good luck with the move, eh?

ugh... you and me both. As for my (original)fiction, I keep it in another journal.

And don't get me started on fan characters....*shudders*

I hate that stuff and I have no interest in it. I have dropped people from my friends list that only post fanfic (people that do it only ever now and then and put it behind a filter or a cut, I don't care that much about), and I won't join writing communities here or over on Dreamwidth because most of them seem to be dedicated only to fanfic.

I really have little use for the type of people that are way too obsessed with some show/movie/game, make their fanfic almost the center of their lives, talk about fictional characters like they're real people that you know and hang out with. There is something disturbing to me about living that immersed in a fictional world.

But yeah, like you said, no use for it, don't care.

i may be doing the whole genre a disservice, since i've read very very little of it. but what i did encounter was so BAD....so mindnumbingly, horribly, appallingly BAD that i just don't want to go there. i don't have enough life left to read all the good stuff i want to read. why would i spend any time reading bad shit?

I used to read it for different fandoms. However, they get repetitive after awhile. Was a beta reader and would gently lead the writers to something more interesting. Got tired of the same stuff over and over again. Pirates of the Carib - Jack Sparrow and girl, King Arthur - King and girl, blah blah blah........ I won't bore you. I do read it over at Fanfic.net.
