...that a lot of times, when a lot of people say things like "To each their own", they're not really saying "That's fine, I don't necessarily agree with you but I don't have a problem with you thinking/doing that if that's what you're into" They're often saying something more like "you're off your rocker and there's something very wrong with you, but i'm going to keep the peace and act like a nice person"

It dawned on me a few weeks ago, that most of the time when I hear "to each his own" it is accompanied by a weird look, and the person moving ever so slightly farther away from me. Usually in reference to paganism, but not always. As if just standing near me is going to somehow adversely affect them.

I also hear it a lot from my stepfather in reference to music, TV, movies, stuff like that that I like and he doesn't, in a voice that definitely says "i would never be caught dead enjoying such a thing, and you are a lowbrow cretin if you waste your time on that" I get this a lot. It makes me mad. Yes, I know things like Dawson's Creek are silly...but they're fun. Yes, I am a very intelligent person, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy something brainless every now and then. Some people like Austin Powers...I like silly WB network shows.

Everyone's biased to their own beliefs to some extent...and unfortunately most people are not very willing to listen and really accept others' opinions (just take a look at the areas of the world in the biggest crises)...though on the bright side, modern thinking has improved this a great deal when we compare with the past.
