Does windows media player have a set place for storing media files, or does it just play them from whereever you put them? (That's how it's loking but I guess I'd like confirmation from someone who knows better....or correction if that's the case)

(I'm so used to iTunes and it's default place to store stuff unless you manually go in and change it.)

...the files are never moved. Itunes doesn't move files either unless you tell it, and even then it only copies what you drag into it. Unless of course you put the files IN the folder it manages.

it depends on how you set up itunes, but by default, if you play somethign in itunes, it puts it into the itunes music folder...on a mac anyway (excuse me, it copies..sorry)

anyway....that clears that mystery up

Wow. Nothing like doubling the amount of space being taken up on your disk.

there are various options for copying and moving. and then there's my favorite....consolidation, where it just moves everyhting into your music folder for you.

You sure about that? How fast is the processor?

Can't hurt to try installing iTunes. I run it at home on a P3-550, and it never chews even 10% of the processor while it's running.

Granted, you don't want to be watching video content in it. But audio works just fine.

you can't even download it from the apple website if the computer doesn't meet certain requirements.

I'm ok with waiting til i can hook up the other computer. this one only has 4 gigs and I'm just not all that concerned about putting too much music on it. I can live with WMP for a week...lol

I'm a little confused about the question. Are you asking where your files are put that you are downloading? Because most are set to a default download location of your choice.

If you're talking about having to have files in a certain place to play them, no. You can play them from wherever.

But I suggest using Fubar as a media player rather than Winamp or Windows Media. http://www.foobar2000.org
