Custom colored popcorn???

I had another cramp in my calf this morning around 5ish.

It wasn't quite as severe painwise as the previous ones have been (I've had two or three in the last few months.) but it lasted a bit longer, I think. I could be wrong though, I was mostly asleep. This time, it didn't really increase too much in severity if I tried to bend or straighten my leg.

It's been suggested before that it's due to not being properly hydrated...well, I've been drinking more water lately, and had quite a bit of it yesterday.

Someone suggested lack of potassium, I could try eating more bananas.

But I can't help but wonder if it's not something else. I don't know. It's always the exact same spot on my right calf. In all but one case, it's happens while I was sleeping. The time that I was awake and it happened was the worst, it just wouldn't let go and I could actually see the spot where the muscle was cramping up- it was this little round spot that was kinda twitching- it was creepy, and whether I tried to bend or straighten my leg, it felt like I was going to tear or otherwise severely injure something. The muscle feels tight for several days afterwards, no matter how much I try to stretch it out. Does this sound like anythign besides a lack of water or potassium to anyone? Does it sound like anything that should be seen by a doctor?

Maybe I'm paranoid, I hope so. I've just never had this problem before.

In other news, Special K blueberry breakfast bars are yummy.

I get those cramps sometimes, too. I subscribe to the potassium theory.

A quick way to get relief: go stand in an empty bathtub. There's something about the cool porcelain or whatever that helps. I know it sounds crazy, but it really works. I have no idea why.

sounds like an interesting thing to try, but when i get these cramps, I can't move my leg let alone walk far enough to get to a bathtub. It seriously feels like the muscle will tear or somehting if I try to straighten it.

I've been getting cramps like that, too. They come along in my family with age. Not that you're, like, old or something.

When do you turn thirty, again? Next year? ;-)

I feel for ya with the cramps, I got a small one the other night...I've never heard the potassium thing before, but then again, I hadn't researched this kind of thing before. Hmmm...

i used to get cramps (complete with the twitchies) in various muscles when i was younger, and a banana always helped. i started taking a multivitamin, however, and haven't had them in awhile.

Potassium especially is best gotten from food not pills. Banana's are just one good source. Potatoes have more. And they are right it is NOT just the potassium but it's balance to calcium, magnesium and most likely even Vit D. Raisins and hell here is link for potassium foods.

There is also quinine. Though banned in the us for this use you can get a leg cramp suppliment made my hylands at rite aid. There is alsot tonic water with it. Hell here is another link to night time cramps.

I had then a couple times in my life 1. after my sterlization I didn't have a period for a couple months, doc gave me a pill to fix that. I was in so much pain once i woke up as my leg shot straight up in the air the cramp was so bad. and the second time was when all i ate was steak and brocolli for three months straight, nothing else but soda.

unless you started taking water pills or some such then my theory on your case is the stresses lately are depleting whatever minerals you do get, therefore you need more.

I'm no doctor, not meant to treat or diagnose just offering my thoughts.

Be Well
