I've decided that I definitley like cabernet sauvignon considerably more than shiraz.

And the current sauvignon blanc that I have is better even than the New Haven of which I can find no more.

I should get a wine book. Recommendations?

Oh, and I like uncorking a bottle with an artificial cork than the ones with real cork.

However, it's a lot easier to put the real cork back than the artificial.

The trend in Europe is towards screw-caps. Easier to install and less expensive than natural or artificial corks. The only exception is Spanish wines, which use natural corks by law. Coincidentally, Spain has a sizable cork tree industry.

it was completely unintelntional- i never seem to think about it- that I had grabbed several screw-cap wine bottles in series before i woud up with one that was corked. and then i kept forgettig to pick up a corkscrew til this weekend, and then i had another bottle with a cork and...

Yeah, I don't avoid screw-cap bottles, I just...happened to have picked a couple of bottles that didn't have them.

Don't think I've ever had a Spanish wine.

There's also one I got from my Food and Wine Class...it's more about pairing wines with food, than just wine, but still a good read, I'll get that to you too

Wine suggestions:

Don't drink Shiraz. Use it for cooking, and offer the *food* to Dionysos. I hate Shiraz to drink. Bleh. But man it makes a good poached chicken breast.

Cabernet sauvignon is good. But... Sangria is better. :) I think you'll find he LOVES Sangria. It's one of two things,w hen you buy it in the store - either it's a proprietary wine from Italy (very yummy) or a cheap wine that's been spruced up with citrus fruit (also very yummy). You can also make Sangria on your own: http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/Drinks/Sangria/ViewAll.aspx

It's nice, light, and honestly, I find it is probably closer to how the watered wine was in ancient Greece. ;)

I don't have a suggestion for wine books, but my favorite cabernet sauvignon at the moment is Robert Mondavi's Woodbridge Cabernet Saugignon. Its made in California, but ironically I was introduced to it in Denmark. I was really disappointed when I moved back to the US and it has a cork here...but its REALLY good so the bottle doesn't last long in our house.
